Privacy notice
Last updated [date]. Population Decides is run by [company name], a company registered in Scotland [check: or England and Wales], company number [number], registered office [address]. We are the controller of your personal data. ICO registration number [number]. Contact: privacy@populationdecides.com.
What we collect and why
| Data | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| A random player ID created when you open the game | To save your progress, streak and points, and count your daily decision once | Legitimate interests |
| Your choices in the game and daily decisions | To show how the country splits and publish the Population Poll as anonymous totals. Your choices can reveal your political opinions, which the law treats as special category data | Your explicit consent, given when you start playing; you can withdraw it at any time |
| Optional "about you" answers: age range, sex, region, how you voted in 2024 | To weight the Population Poll so it reflects the UK population | Your explicit consent on that form |
| Your email address, if you sign up | To send the daily decision and Population Decides news | Your consent; unsubscribe with one click in any email |
| Questions you type into "Ask the economist" or the MP letter | To answer them | Legitimate interests; do not include personal details |
What we never do
- We never sell or share your personal data with any political party or campaign.
- We never publish results for any group smaller than [10] people, and never anything that could identify you.
- We never ask how you voted at a real election after it happens, and never reward anyone for voting or not voting.
- Paid research questions, if we offer them in future, will be a separate opt-in panel for adults, with its own consent.
Children
Anyone can play. If you tell us you are under 13 we store no "about you" details. Answers from players under 18 are kept out of the main Population Poll and reported separately only as totals.
Who processes data for us
Supabase (database and sign-in, data stored in [region, e.g. London, eu-west-2]), Vercel (website hosting), Anthropic (answers to "Ask the economist" questions; questions are not used to train models under our commercial terms [check]). [Add your email provider once chosen.] Some providers may process data outside the UK under UK-approved safeguards.
How long we keep it
Game data: while you keep playing, and deleted after [24] months of inactivity. Email: until you unsubscribe. Published poll totals contain no personal data and are kept.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, withdraw consent, or object, by emailing privacy@populationdecides.com. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
